REAL ID in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania adds $30.50 on top of the standard renewal fee for a REAL ID-compliant license. REAL ID has been required for domestic flights since May 7, 2025 — but only if you don't have a US passport or another federal-compliant ID. If you fly rarely and have a passport, you can skip the upgrade.
Renewal rules for drivers age 65+
Once you reach age 65, Pennsylvania switches you to a 2-year renewal cycle (down from the standard 4 years). The fee per renewal is usually the same, but you'll be visiting more often. Some states also require in-person renewal and a fresh vision check at this point — check the source link below for the exact rules.
